2. File folder boxes. Each player takes one file folder box. This is where cards will go when they are dealt to the player.
3. Choose a dealer. The dealer shuffles all the cards and deals them into the player’s file folders starting with the farthest slot and moving towards the player.
4. The undealt cards are placed face down in the center of the play area. The dealer flips the first card face up and places it to start the draw pile.
Gameplay
Folders is played in a series of rounds. In each round players want to arrange their folders from low to high.
To play a round
1. Start with the player left of the dealer.
Players choose 1 of two actions-
a) Draw from discard. If a player chooses to draw from the discard they take the top folder card and exchange it for a folder card in their file folder. The card that they exchange is placed face up.
b) Take the top card from the draw pile. Once a player draws it they can look at it and either choose to discard it face up or exchange it with a folder card in their file folder and discard that card instead.
If the draw pile is exhausted after a player draws a card the deck is shuffled and a new draw pile is formed. The top card from the draw deck should be flipped to create a new draw pile.
After taking their action, if the player has all of their cards in accending order they MAY declare “FILED!” and end the round. They do not need to if they wish to go for run bonus points.
If the player did not end the round it continues to the next player in clockwise order.
